A Question for Those of You Who Understand More Than I Do
The media and I don't always interface so well because, underneath my computer sophistication, I'm a technophobe. I still keep my calendar and address book on pencil and paper.
That said, my cable company is offering a new deal and I got lectured at today by Susie because I'm not using my technological resources very well. I don't have digital cable and I don't subscribe to premium cable because I'm not much for movies. The local cable ISP is offering introductory rates for digital cable and their VOIP phone service (about which I'm trying to find out more.) Is this technology reliable? Will it save me money? What's your experience?
I'm convinced that digital TV and HiDef will be lost on me because I don't wear my glasses at home and have a very impressionistic view of what's on the tube (what do we call it now that it is flat screen?) and don't feel the need to give that up. The other stuff might be interesting. The programming on the basic cable and broadcast channels is pretty thin, but another 20 bucks a month for premium programming already comes pretty dear.
Advice, friends?

You are probably paying outrageously too much for broadband internet already.
If you want to watch an old movie once in a while, or even some TV series like PBS or BBC comedies or costume dramas, you can get NetFlix for $10.99/month.
For more high definition entertainment, put up a bird feeder outside your window.
