Not Dead Yet
I'm going to have more to say later today about the experience of serious illness without medical care; needless to say, this has had a serious impact on my thinking lately which goes far beyond politics. I've got errands to run this morning to make up for all the time I lost in the last couple of weeks and I'm hoping that will give me the time to finish pulling my thoughts together.

I really hope you have a good recovery.

Hope you're feeling better soon. Your previous comment about the relationship between bankruptcy and medical bills is so true. I used to do some bankruptcy work and that was the major reason for most of my clients' situations. It's a double-edged sword; you can't get decent medical care without insurance; you can't get decent (affordable) medical insurance without decent health.

I've seen the face of medical care for this country's future and it's lovely, efficient, friendly (and can be very cheap).
Dr. Jim Pride, of our church is one of seven doctors working at the Riverside Clinic in Arlington Heights, IL. The doctors have a staff of 40-50 support personnel. Working hours are from apx 8 pm - 4:30 pm, Mon-Fri.
This is where you go to get checked up and checked out - blood work, pulse, blood pressure, heart checked, etc. The basics of primary care.
The clinic is NOT designed for surgical procedures, psychiatric, or aligned practices.
But they get you in and get you out pronto.
They usually process over 50 clients an hour.
So, it CAN be done, but one must have the will to do it, and to get the right people, because a shared vision is an essential part of this practice.
Please get well soon Melanie. You are in my prayers.
Mark
